Review: The Cruel Prince

Image
Book information Title: The Cruel Prince Author: Holly Black Where to buy:  Amazon . My review has heavy spoilers including the ending and major plot events. Proceed at your own risk. Too many for my eyes to drink them all in, yet I cannot look away. - Jude I wonder if faerie wings grow back; I know that butterflies that lose a wing never fly again. - Jude 'I am going to fall in love.' I am surprised into laughter. 'So you’ve just decided? I didn’t think it worked like that. I thought love was supposed to happen when you least expected it, like a sap to the skull.' - Taryn & Jude 'Do you know what mortal means? It means born to die. It means deserving of death. That’s what you are, what defines you—dying. And yet here you stand, determined to oppose me even as you rot away from the inside out, you corrupt, corrosive mortal creature. Tell me how that is. Do you really think you can win against me? Against a prince of Faerie?' - Cardan 'You think because y...

Review: His Last Wife

Image
Book information Title: His Last Wife Author: Ruhi Choudhary Where to buy:  Amazon . 'Maybe both of us could use a friend.' - Dr. Danvers 'Stop shaking like a leaf in the wind.' - Narrator 'And I'm here rambling like a drunk college girl, and I said the words boobs! Who says boobs?' - Anna 'She had one of those personalities. The kind that takes over everything and everyone.' - Dr. Danvers The world continued to spin, birds chirped, winds blew, rain fell, days bled into nights, but the loneliness was so enormous that all of a sudden nothing mattered. The beauty of the world faded. People's laughter and joy stopped touching my soul. And soon sadness and anger paved the way for a more permanent emotion: apathy. - Anna 'The bad things take time to come out, my dear.' - Mrs. Scott 'Luck is a funny thing. It's bipolar. It only knows extremes.' - Mrs. Scott 'I wanted this world to remember me. I didn't want to take a piece o...

Review: Tomie

Image
Book information Title: Tomie (Complete Deluxe edition) Author: Junji Ito Where to buy:  Amazon Review includes slight spoilers (only the first few stories), proceed at your own risk.  Likes: Drawings. As always it's spooky and even normal scenes have faces that look odd. I think that's the drawing style. I like it.  The drama between Yamato and Tomie. We see that Yamato cares for Tomie and doesn't find it good that she is flirting with her teacher.  Everyone dissaproves of Tomie's behaviour towards her teacher, wanting them all to hide evidence that Tomie died when falling from a cliff after being slapped by Yamato. I like that they disapproved of it and didn't act like they don't care or are fine with it. In the norm, people disapprove it, so it's perfect that this book mentions it too and isn't anyhow different. It's more realistic.   It's fucked up. Imagine you get a kidney donor and then the donor's head comes out of our stomach. That...

Review: No Longer Human

Image
Book information Title: No Longer Human Author: Osamu Dazai Where to buy:  Amazon I wanted to read this book out of interest in psychology and in the end I learnt more about a person in my life than I thought I will.  I lack empathy and the same sense of emotions and feelings like others. So I find psychology really interest, as everything is new to me and it is so complex and makes no sense for me that it is actually astonishing again. I thought I just learn a bit more about depression and that's it, but I also learnt a bit more about a person in my life. I always had a feeling like they experienced some kind of trauma, but now I am certain with this book.  The book isn't long, as it is also written in notebooks by a person who experienced depression throughout their life. I learnt a lot from this book and it was informative, but it was too depressing on the long run. I wasn't sad when I read it, but I can't possibly imagine to be born with depression. It's a psych...

Review: Hachiko: The True Story Of A Loyal Dog

Image
Book information Title: Hachiko: The True Story Of A Loyal Dog Author: Pamela S. Turner Where to buy:  Amazon . The film made me cry. So I wanted to read a book about this. And I found one from the perspective of a boy.  The book is really good. It doesn't only tell the story but also shows it with imagery. Every information is also right on the real life events in 1923-1935. It's true that the gardener had the dog sometimes before Hachiko walked again in the morning to the train station. He kinda lived there, but eventually once in a while went to Dr. Ūenos Gardener's house. And Hachiko ran away from his new home by Dr. Ūenos relatives.  After the story of the book finished we also get an information of the origin story and why it is so important in Japanese culture. Very good book with great resources and lots of information. How it works: Only everything that is lower than 9 gets reduced from the final rating. Depending on how strong it inflicted the overall enjoyment ...

🇬🇧 Review: Der Killer in dir

Image
Book information Title: Der Killer in dir Author: Max Reiter Where to buy:  Buecher.de  &  Amazon . *I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.* Likes:  Gets exciting fast. Doesn't need 30+ pages, like some books. The conscience when you kill someone was shown and describes very well in this book. Alex wasn't just brave, he had a conscience even when he was a cop and did it due to his job. That makes him look human, who has weaknesses. Like he is a actual person and not a book character. He seems real and not one-dimensional.  It shows how Alex changed his behaviour and thinking pattern when killing someone without any 'good' reasons, like when he was a cop. But the main point here, it changed something in him, and the book did not act like it was normal and doesn't change a person how they are.  Alex is actually smart. He is the only smart person in this book. He doesn't fall for tricks, and re-checks that he ...

🇩🇪 Rezension: Der Killer in dir

Image

Review: Fog and Fireflies

Image
Book information Title: Fog and Fireflies Author: T.H. Lehnen Where to buy:  Amazon  &  Bookshop *I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.* 'True stories are often sad.' - Wheeler 'They are dancing. Like the stars.' - Narrator Likes: Cover. I actually only got the physical copy for the cover, but hear me out. The book blurb was interesting too and I never got a physical copy before so I was really excited for it. The book also has more than one cover and they all keep the style of the main cover. The wording might be confusing at times, but it's creative. Perhaps you have to think a bit longer when reading the book, but it has its own uniqueness. Doesn't take long to get exciting. The fog isn't always there. And it's not that rare when it disappears. Yes, it doesn't happen every week, but it's not the typical 'It happened 100 years ago...' story. That's really cool and I am fond of it. ...
