Likes:

Drawings. As always it's spooky and even normal scenes have faces that look odd. I think that's the drawing style. I like it.

The drama between Yamato and Tomie. We see that Yamato cares for Tomie and doesn't find it good that she is flirting with her teacher.

Everyone dissaproves of Tomie's behaviour towards her teacher, wanting them all to hide evidence that Tomie died when falling from a cliff after being slapped by Yamato. I like that they disapproved of it and didn't act like they don't care or are fine with it. In the norm, people disapprove it, so it's perfect that this book mentions it too and isn't anyhow different. It's more realistic.

It's fucked up. Imagine you get a kidney donor and then the donor's head comes out of our stomach. That's crazy! But that's exactly why I read Junji Ito.

The photo club story was so unexpected. Huge plottwist! As someone who rarely gets shocked by such, it's really refreshing. (Same for the adopted daughter story).

Fast pace for most stories.

Great explanation of who Tomie is and why she behaves that way. It's not just multiple short stories about 1 character, but we also go deep into their mind and why they are how they are. Tomie isn't flat, she has a great personality.

Dislikes:

Some stories had a slow pace.

Some stories felt repetitive.

Hw it works: Only everything that is lower than 9 gets reduced from the final rating. Depending on how strong it inflicted the overall enjoyment of reading it effects differently.

Final Rating

4/5

That was my first time reading a book about Junji Ito. I already heard of this author before and its drawings and also watched the anime on Netflix, so I thought it's finally time to actually read the original pieces of his artworks. And I am glad I did, I am looking very much forward to reading another one!
